Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 2024)

During the 11th to 22nd of March AMKAS Nepal attended the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). It is an annual convention that strives to improve the rights of women around the world, and this year’s priority theme was “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”. By highlighting key failures, like the necessity for an additional $360 billion per year in investment in order to achieve full global gender equality, CSW 2024 was able to emphasise the need for investment in policies and programmes that address gender inequalities. It is not just the 100 million women and girls who live in poverty who would benefit from achieving true gender equality, there would also be a 20% increase in per capita GDP across all regions if gender pay gaps are closed.  CSW 2024 also pointed out that 2.6 billion people will be voting for their government this year; it is time to demand the investment that women deserve.
